Signal Compliance Recording

SIGNAL COMPLIANCE RECORDING

Signal Compliance Recording: capture and securely archive employees’ Signal messages, chats, calls, files and attachments for FCA and MiFID II compliance.

THE IMPORTANCE OF RECORDING SIGNAL FOR REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

Signal messenger, initially launched in 2014, is an instant messaging, voice calling and video calling application with a growing base of more then 40 million monthly active users.

As well as using end-to-end encryption, similar to other IM apps like WhatsApp, it also incorporates additional privacy features and collects a minimal amount of personal data. These privacy features were instrumental in Signal winning millions of new users when Facebook announced a change in WhatsApp’s privacy policy at the start of 2021.

With this continually growing adoption of Signal, compliance departments worldwide are now faced with another communications channel which must be recorded and securely archived to ensure regulatory compliance.

SIGNAL ARCHIVER OVERVIEW

Signal’s software is free and open-source. Our compliant Signal recording solution uses a slightly modified version of the official Signal app, allowing us to capture all communications to and from the user’s device (mobile or desktop), while retaining the exact same user experience, encryption, security features and functionality as the original Signal application.

All messages (including disappearing messages), voice calls, multimedia and file attachments are recorded in line with FCA, MiFID II, FINRA and other regulatory requirements. Recorded data is then pushed to the chosen archive platform, e.g. Global Relay, Bloomberg Vault etc., or the Signal Archiver’s default archive which comes with basic e-discovery capabilities to allow the searching and retrieval of recordings for internal auditing purposes or regulator requests.
